About

Me at the 2010 CrossFit Northeast Regional

My name is Ben Taylor. I was born and raised in NJ, went to college in PA, worked on wall street and on main street but have always remained (in my mind at least) an athlete. I am generally interested in making this world better off for me having been here. I know that sounds corny but it’s true. I am also the father of two diamonds. Two beautiful children, daughters, that are the loves of my life.

My athletic life…

I have been involved in sport (football, track, baseball, basketball, tennis) since I was a little kid and haven’t stopped since. I was informally coached by professional weightlifters by the age of 12 and have been weight training ever since. My love of sport and training for sport took me to a college football and track scholarship and paid for a decent education and provided an (unsuccessful) shot at the pro level in football. Along the way I have always been the guy who was interested in ways to improve which lead me to an endless amount of articles, books and the occasional professional certification on strength, conditioning and speed. I never lost my desire to help athletes, including myself, get better. Over a 35 year period, along with a knowledge gained through study, I’ve acquired through practical experience an intuition about improving athletically.

A few years ago, CrossFit was introduced to me. I immediately made it my goal to participate in CrossFit competitively and have had some success. In 2010 I was the second oldest qualifier to the CrossFit Northeast Regional and a participant on Guerrilla Fitness CrossFit Montclair’s team which qualified for the 2010 CrossFit Games. I have coached and programmed for the Guerrilla Fitness team, several elite CrossFit athletes around the country and non-CrossFit athletes. I personally have my sight set on qualifying in the Masters division of The CrossFit Games and eventually breaking the Masters American record for the clean and jerk.

Competitive functional fitness has grown and I have made every effort to grow with it. I have been lucky enough to be selected as one of the members of the Boston Iron in the inaugural season of the National Professional Grid League (NPGL).

I feel I have found through competitive fitness the outlet for the lifetime of knowledge and experience I’ve accumulated in sport, strength, and conditioning. This site is meant to share, for free, that knowledge and experience with those who wish to participate in competitive fitness or prepare themselves for the sport of their choosing.
